In 2005, Lavita McMath Turner founded Silhouette Style Solutions, merging her passion for shopping with a strong desire to empower women. She attributes her classic sense of style and personal presentation to her late grandmother, Tommie Lee McMath.
Prior to launching her own style consulting company, Lavita spent ten years as a lobbyist and public policy analyst in New York City, where she developed a keen awareness of image and style as each impacts public opinion. Over the years, she informally coached family, friends and colleagues on fashion and style. It became clear that people placed tremendous value in her friendly and honest advice, which motivated her to make a career change.
Lavita attended the country's leading program for image consulting at the Fashion Institute of Technology (FIT). She gained bridal styling experience as a consultant for Fenaroli for Regalia, one of the nation's leading high-end bridal accessory companies. She also interned with Bridgette Raes, former fashion designer, FIT graduate and founder of the Bridgette Raes Style Group consulting firm.
Lavita is known for her informal, yet professional nature and wit. Her philosophy is that unlike common sense, you don't have to be born with style sense. Instead, you have to be willing to challenge long-held beliefs about beauty and fashion; body image and self-expression, and most importantly, embrace change.
From an early age, Lavita was influenced by her grandmother's guiding principle to always remember that "when you leave this house, you represent this family." Similarly, she instructs her clients to ask themselves every day 'who or what am I representing or what image am I projecting when I leave the house?' Work with Lavita, and feel confident that the answer to this question will be reflected in your new and improved personal style.
Lavita holds a B.A. from the University of California at Berkeley and a M.S. from New School University in New York City. She is married, has a stepson and resides in Brooklyn.
